I'd like to start a collection of encased postage and would like to know if anyone has some ideas of where to look online.

What are encased postage anyways? Are they like stamps that have been graded?

www.EarlyAmerican.com has auctions from time to time which include encased postage stamps.
They just closed a sale with some nice ones in it.
Encased postage stamps are available in very limited numbers and avidly collected by both coin and stamp collectors.

Also I have seen them occasionally in Stacks auctions.

I am honestly not sure where to look online, I have searched from time to time with little real success. I was at a dealer just the other day and saw two fairly nice ones in the $395-$495 range. Mighty tempting, but I stuck with the hammered English. If you do find any online places, please let us know (it can be after you've cherry-picked all the good ones ). Happy hunting!

Also Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries recently auctioned off a spectacular collection of encased postage stamps. Here is one example of a J. C. Ayer piece from the The Summit Collection of United States Encased Postage.

Wheres-The-Best-Place-To-Buy-Encased-Postage

Take Ayer's Pills, 12c Black (EP12). Stamp beautifully positioned with "U.S. Postage" and "Twelve Cents" labels fully visible, silvering on reverse with the raised letters colored in a golden brown shade, slight scratches on right obverse case tab. This 12c Take Ayer's Pill's has a rarity rating of R-8 (5-10 known) in the Reed census.
