Most collectors here seems to collect bullions or American junk silver. Are there any other who likes to collect world silver commemoratives half as investment and half as numismatic mind?

As the silver price has been cheap lately I have acquired many coins at spot +-20% range. Some coins may have higher face value also. I don't like hoarding similar designs so I buy only one piece per type (unc/bu or proof, not both).

Many coins are Olympic themed coins with huge mintages like some of these ones:

I like those, but I have to be realistic. I collect what's widely recognized, for easy sale if need be.

Yeah, I've got a pretty good collection of world commems. Most of them silver. Lately I've been focused on olympic coins from whatever country hosted that year. Have my first London olympic silver commem arriving on Monday.

I'm a world coin collector, so I have many silver commemoratives from all over. I collect for the numismatic value. If the coins become a good investment, that's just gravy.

I do as well and I'm also working on the Olympic comms. Silver is silver but I collect for the beautiful art work while keeping silver value in mind

Thanks for your thoughts!

fistfulladirt - yes, for example bullion coins are better for that purpose you have to get FIAT money fast. I don't like their premiums at the moment so I have turned to buy commems instead. Also I like variety, so tubes full of Maple Leafs aren't for me.

Lancek - that's great to hear! I have come to across many unofficial olympic coins too (minted by other than host country) which seems to be less desired. I have bought only the good deals when saw and I have no full olympic sets yet. But there's no hurry, eventually I'll fill the holes coin by coin.

owatchman - numismatic value is a good argument. I have a few sets I plan to keep "forever", but I may sell some odds and ends if silver price is booming in some point. As silver price has been very affordable recently I have bought coins very easy. Many of them have been undervalued due to paper silver market IMO.

Greasy Fingers - there are many with beautiful artwork out there indeed. It's always nice to get nice proof near spot price. Some even below the mining costs...

I'm not full investor collector, but I have to be honest and say it's easier to buy at spot than with large numismatic premium. It feels like putting money to piggy bank ;)

I too have many world silver coins (regular issues and commemoratives) that have been purchased at close to bullion cost. Although I have no plans to re-sell, it is good to know that they have kept their value (and gone up, for the the ones I bought many years ago), should I ever decide to sell.

I like to buy these from time to time when the design/history being commemorated appeals to me. I especially like the Austrian and French coins.
