Hello, I cant get a good enough photo. I'm looking closer at my 1992-D penny ( Wide AM,) I am seeing doubles on the 1,9's and the D mark. Any thoughts ?
Well what you are seeing on the obverse is called DDD. (Die-Deterioration-Doubling)Basically this is die wear and it will showin on the new coins in the direction to the closest rim: Note directions. Date to the right, Liberty to the left and on the motto on the tops of these letters. This shows up on the fields as the profile of the coin is much lower than the older style of hubbing coins. So this shows on the fields, not the devices. Not a doubled die, but an aging die. The 1992 cent normally are Wide AM's just a few are the Close AM for that year. But there is what to look for on these: Note the location of the 'M' to see if it is centered between the A.M.E, or off the to left AM.E. If the 'M' is centered then it is normal.
