I've run across a few of these and the only thing thats harder than ignoring the action I'm seeing, is finding literature on whats going on here. Aside from the utilization of the new equipment that the mint used to make them, are there any issues with the 2001 cents that you guys know of? For example...like the master doubling seen on the 1968, 1972, and 1983 cents..?

I have pics of another that ill try to post along side these. Is this a DDO?

Not a DDO. You need to put a filter on your light source.

V.V lists one DDO for that year. But note how the devices are affected:

Note the distortion of the devices. Keep in mind that the 2001-03 cents had larger devices those years, but the hub doubling doesn't show them normal, but doubled class 9 examples:

Note the centers of the 'B' also the 'E' is altered in shape.

Also the 'T' is altered. Note how seeing the side by side helps us to see the exact differences. That is why I use these. Looking from one place like in a book or on a site and looking at your coin, the exact thing your seeing in two different places, maybe lost. But when you see them together, then you see what you could be missing.

Thanks John and Coop. Much easier to see the difference in the side by side, and particularly on the RTY. Besides the slightly thicker numbers on the date, I can't see it on that side. The incused areas look about the same to me over there.

What kind of filter should I use? Below is a pic of what I get looking just about top dead center. I had to get more oblique for the image to become clear. What do y'all think happened to this coin?

Type of filter depends on what your setup is now.

Well on the last image I'm seeing DDD on the right side of the date/mintmark area. This is not a doubled die, this is Die Deterioration. You coin is not an issue of glare. Do you use image software? An adding program can help a lot.

Most of the time I use my cell phone to create posts for this website and I believe that it has some ability to perform what you mentioned above. When John1 mentioned a filter I was thinking that he meant glare reduction as well, which would be pretty helpful from time to time.

Thanks for your help guys.
