When it comes to high grade, brown large cents, I'm all over the place when it comes to grading those. Was hoping to get an opinion on it. I might consider sending it off to a TPG. I'm not sure if that's wear on the 1 and the 7 though, so it might even go as low as an au55.

If it is uncirculated, it won't be for long if you hold it that way. By the edge only, please!

Agree with frog, please hold by the edges only, and I also think your grade if AU-55 sounds right.

I personally wouldn't get it graded but it's up to you if you do or not

Solid AU , with a minor die clash .
The way this Heaton Mint issue
was struck , not unusual to see
a wear pattern on the date .

I should have included this in the description, but these were the pictures that were shown by the previous owner to me. I would always hold a coin by the edge, even if its junk. I only used this picture because it was much better than any picture I can take. I did pick this up for only 15 bucks, so I'm not mad over an AU.

Heck for $15 you can't really go wrong on a key date coin in that shape.

From the vertical jewels on the crown and some of the leaf tips, I'd go to AU, but no higher. Don't send it to a TPG. It's a nice coin and not worth the $50 to get it in the mail just to get an opinion.
