When I was a kid I was given a Jefferson Whitman folder and scanned loose change. I had forgotten about these until my mother gave it to me several months back. It restarted my interest in coins.

I realize that I'm only one of two people who voted for the Roosevelt dime. For some reason I always like the Roosevelt dime. It is an affordable series to collect. The one key to the series (if you call it that) the 1949S, is very affordable in MS65.

From an outlander's perspective...

For me, it's more a question of which design I dislike the least. I've always found modern American coins to be far too "wordy" - three separate mottoes, the denomination and country name written out in full... they all really need to be tightened up.

Of the five options given, I voted for the Kennedy half. Coats of arms are a major collecting sub-theme of mine, and the Kennedy is the only US coin currently showing it.

My recent Nickel roll-hunting has been tons of fun!

1935 (full-date) Buffalo, 1939, 1940-D, 1940-S, 1941-S, 1943-P and 1944-D (wartime), 1946-D, 1948-D, 1951-D, 1957 (AU), 1960-D (AU), and six BU 2005-D Bison Nickels (likely from an opened Mint roll)...

This is all just in the last ten days!

Think about this...
Franklin would still be our half if JFK wasn't snuffed out.

Personally, I like all the circulating coins. Dollars included. Every time you get change there's a chance of something interesting. Many here state they don't like the looks or feel or whatever about a series but to me they are all different and that's good enough to make it interesting.

Also, it's likely in that case that the Half-Dollar would still be a circulating coin. The assassination of JFK caused people to hoard JFK Half-Dollars as keepsakes (especially in 1964), which caused a major decline in the circulation of Half-Dollars. Then add the silver hoarding
on top of that, and by the time the last Half-Dollars were issued for circulation (2001-D, in the western U.S.), they were a true rarity to get in your change! I have four 2001-D Half-Dollars in my stash that are the last JFK Halves I got from circulation (that same year).

It has to be the Lincoln Cent for me, specifically the wheaties. The first coins I collected out of circulation were San Francisco mint Lincolns from the late 60's and early 70's. I must still have them somewhere! Soon I moved on to wheaties and Indians and I've now been collecting "pennies" for over 35 years.

My FAVE modern is the Susan B Anthony dollar, but I also love Kennedys and Roosies.

Out of these - the Washington quarters, by which I mean the non-state ones.

Out of this list, probably quarters. Not so much the states, but the silver ones. With a few exceptions, they are reasonable to collect and they still satisfy that desire to have silver.

I voted Lincoln Cents (although for me it is wheaties only) because of my childhood collecting. However, if Franklins had been a choice they would have been my pick. My MS to Proof complete set is sure nice to look at.
