Wow that's a lot of photos....however, are you sure there's no foreign matter stuck to it...like dried glue?

to CCF. Too many photos. First thing is to soak in 100% pure acetone. It does look like a substance on the coin. John1

I agree not a shattered die but rather dried adhesive on the surface of the coin.

Okay, thank you all for the info! I will get some acetone and soak it with that. It may take a day or two but I will let you and get some pics of the after acetone!

It would probably wash off. But it is stained, it maybe there to stay.

your penny is a copper plated zinc coin. this has to do with the plating process.

I agree with coop... either a dries substance on the surface of this coin, or a stain. No minting error, no premium. And as others have mentioned, about 500 too many photos. Live and learn. to the CCF!

here it is, you're all right, nothing but a foreign substance! Couldn't find 100% acetone so I used a product called Penny Brite.

Thankfully your cent was not an "error" coin and not worth more than face value so the "Penny brite" didn't cause any value lost, however do not use it on any cents you might believe has some value because all value would be lost due to improper cleaning. Spend some time to locate 100% pure Acetone since it all not discolor copper nor cause damage. Most hardware stores carry it in either quart or gallon sizes....good luck and happy hunting...
