Largest Clipped Planchet - Question - Photo Added

Jake the Dog Valued Member United States 226 Posts	Posted 08/03/2020 11:38 pm Kind of a curiosity question, what is the largest clipped planchet known of any denomination? And at what point would the clipped planchet stop being considered a Clipped planchet/coin and start to be considered struck scrap? I have to take some pics of a huge clipped nickel I bought a few years ago which I found again as I've been cleaning/organizing my coins while stuck at home. Weight is 1.9 grams, my control nickel same date and AU condition weighed 5.0 grams on the dot. So by weight alone I get the coin is 62% underweight from a normally struck nickel. Haven't cleaned a coin since the early 1990s when I used to used baking soda and water to make em shine! Report this Post to the Staff
