I have gone through hundreds of boxes of halves looking for silver. Every now and then I find an error coin, or so I believe. This one is missing a layer of cladding, real easy to see when in person or if you can enlarge the photo.

What does the reverse look like? If it is bulging outwards opposite that area it is damage to the obverse. If it is normal on the opposite area, maybe a struck through error. I feel it is not a missing clad as it would be red in color on that area. Check to see the weight also. On a damaged coin or a struck through coin the weight will be normal. If it were missing a cladding, then it would be lighter.

I'm thinking it's a struck through error, not a clad issue. An image of the reverse and maybe the weight of the coin?

Yes looks interesting. I'm looking forward to a little more info so that we can help you have some certainty.

Most likely struck through error. A picture of the close up reverse will determined it.

Strike through error, not missing clad. And unfortunately it has a scratch from a coin rolling machine.

Here is the reverse, nothing noticeable.

My powder scale weighs in grains, so I will see about a weight.

Doesn't look pressed outwards. It is probably a struck through error. What? I have no clue. A greasy wad of fiberous debris, like cardboard. I love it when it is more obvious:

I know this is an older thread, but the pictures are good and very educational. Thank you.
