Hi,

Does anyone know why a 1985 quarter would only weigh 5.46g?

from what I can find the lowest end of the tolerance should be 5.48 grams, is the coin worn? That may account for the missing material.

@3w, yes could be an underweight planchet, missing clad, circulation wear, acid bath, or a combination of factors. Please post a couple pics of this coin so that we can see what you have there. Thx.

5.44 grams was minimum weight when minted. While certainly on the low end, that is an in specification value.
