PMG - The high-denomination rarity was the top lot at the August 2020 auction.

A $5,000 Federal Reserve Note certified by Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) realized over a quarter-million dollars to lead the way at the August 2020 Stack's Bowers US Currency Auction on August 5, 2020. Most of the lots in the sale were PMG-certified, including the top four, which each realized at least $80,000.

The 1934 $5,000 Federal Reserve Note (Dallas) graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ realized $252,000. US notes with a denomination this high are extremely rare and are sought by an elite group of paper money collectors. This particular 1934 $5,000 Federal Reserve Note is even more special because it is tied with only four others across all districts for the top grade in the PMG Population Report.

Other PMG-certified highlights that were part of the US currency sale or the August 2020 Stack's Bowers World Paper Money Auction held the same day included:

1918 $1,000 Federal Reserve Note (Philadelphia) graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ that realized $126,000

Thanks. Looking at that list of notes reminds me of looking through a magazine they furnished customers at Mercedes-Benz of Tampa called the DuPont Registry. It features cars and homes I may never afford.
