Hello!

I've been recruited to help identify this coin and any help is appreciated. My mom had it in her collection (thinks she bought it off someone at a garage sale!) and is currently trying to identify it. It is approximately 1 1/8 inch diameter.

Thanks,
Rachel

@rach, first welcome to CCF. Second, rather than being an 18th Century Spanish piece of eight, that looks like a pirate token for themed parties. Some that we see are for the Dread Pirate game, but I think that this is a different one.

This is indeed a mass-produced "pirate coin", a replica and not a genuine coin.

These "1736" or "1741" dated coins are a quite common base design for these replicas. The original coins with this design were gold; you can buy the replicas in gilt-pewter, silvered, or antique bronze. You can buy them in bulk for a pirate-themed party, or go to Disneyland and buy much the same object there, individually, at a highly inflated price.
