I think this is a 1953D 1-DO-001 I believe it matches the pics on Chucks site (Coppercoins) including the Reverse die markers- although the die markers are very faint.

I'm pretty sure its a match.
Agree, let's wait and see what the experts think.

I believe that's the same die. The tell-tale marker would be wther the mintmark is in the exact same place, and I cannot determine that with the information provided.

Hi Chuck: Here are some close-ups of the Mint-Mark. Based on these pics, I'd say this is NOT a 53D 1DO-001 The mint-mark seems more tilted then the one on your site, but I'm not sure if its from die wear or not? That being said, if this isn't, is this still a possible DDO, but a different one? Thanks. Image: 1953DMintMark.jpg54.22 KB Image: 1953DMintMark2.jpg59.54 KB Image: 1953dMarker.jpg65.05 KB

Just did an overlay, proved yours to be the same die as that listed on coppercoins - 1953D-1DO-001.
Be advised that as of present there are only four examples of that die known, yours included. Although quite minor, it's still good enough to warrant a $10 bill in EF. Too bad it's not MS65RD - that would be a $100 coin.
Yes, I know the values on the website are off. I am working on that issue.

Just got new word (and correction) that there are at least a dozen of these out there. I suppose everyone has a few strikes in their field of specialty.
Anyhow, I have been told that these are not as scarce as I had thought, which makes me rethink my idea on value. I may have been up to 50% too high on this one.

No Problem Chuck!
Even at half-($5.00) its still worth more than the penny I paid for it.
Thanks again.

There are a LOT of Lincoln Cent die varieties for which there is little record because a number of them are not recognized by the major grading services, thus don't have 'population' numbers. Everyone sort of counts on each other to know how many there are. Bad thing about it, though, is that it serves everyone who owns the coins to NOT have the number known reported. For instance, if you found three rolls of a single RPM out there, if you let it be known that you had three rolls of them, they would lose half their value because they would instantly be considered 'common' and 'easy to find' - even if your three rolls were the only coins of the die known to exist other than the original discovery coin. The die variety market can be fickle that way.

Dead on match with the mint mark for 001. That is the correct die number.
Just read that Chuck already answered the question! Boy do I feel dumb!
