Hi all. My numismatic wheelhouse is 19th & 20th century U.S. silver, and I know very little about Canadian tokens. But, one of the very knowledgeable CCF members who recently helped me identify this piece suggested that posting it here would spark a spirited grading discussion. Sources tell me this a CH LC-57A2. Have at it.

I'm into tokens (anything pre 1858 really), but this series is not me area of focus,
that said, I have never seen date lettering like that before,
off to look up some more info on the piece

Fascinating!
I would say higher than fine. Many of these tokens were fairly crudely struck so the standard has to shift. This one - the laurel has a lot of detail - the central veins in some of the leaves even. Also, the eye - the face in general - is in quite good shape. And the beads around the edge are all pretty clearly delineated. So the obverse is up there - I'll guess VF or even EF. The reverse - justice is almost missing one of her scales so that takes it down a little. But some of the other detail is decent - you can see some of the tiny work in her face for example.
Overall, maybe VF? Maybe even EF? I don't know this particular coin well but I love these things.

VF+? Not too familiar with the varieties of these guys, but the bust certainly appears to be that of the "crude head" variety (LC-57A2-4). However, as Wade mentioned, the numbers of the date are unlike any other example I know of or have seen.
Is the axis medal or coinage?

Blargish, it has coinage alignment.
Also, the diameter is 28 mm, thickness is about 1.2 mm, and the weight is 5.8g if that makes a difference.

I wonder why Gene or Colonialtokens haven't chimed in on this thread? Both consider tokens a concentrated study subject. Haven't heard from Doug for a long time

@mostlysilver has it identified correctly. Charlton LC-57A2 crude 82, Courteau 38NL R6. Copper w/coinage axis.
It looks like VF details to me based on photos. Possibly cleaned with some corrosion (pebbled surfaces).
Values = $55CAD in F; $100CAD in VF

I concur with LC-57A2 for a coinage axis. I will not squabble with a VF 20.
