I have this South Dakota State Quarter that has an interesting extra bit of metal on the reverse side of the coin on the wing of the bird above Mt. Rushmore. I will attach a photo of the coin in question below, along with a normal coin to show the differences. I am able to feel the metal bit when I rub my thumb over the coin, unlike the other. Any info on what this might be would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

@caleb, first welcome to CCF. Second, it looks to me like the bird has a die chip on its shoulder.

to community.
It is called a Die Chip. It was a common occurrence on the S.D.-P Quarters on the Pheasant's Wing and Neck area also in the digits of 1889, and on the Washington and Abe's profile and in their Eyes as well.

Just out of curiosity. Do die chips like this fetch any additional value above face?

to CCF. Not damage per-say, but a die chip. It is minor so a small if any premium.

The die probably had an issue Feeder Finger Damage. Note how the fields are smooth and the devices are reduced in size. Tail feathers almost gone.
