I found a few rolls of 1959 D and 1959 (p) pennies still in aluminum foil. One roll had been opened, so I unwrapped to look. They are in pretty good shape and look to not be circulated. I have seen varying reports about valuations for them.

I am curious if it is really worth my time to unroll them and search for print errors, or is it in my better interest to just try to sell them to a coin enthusiast? I am afraid that unrolling them could speed up the oxidation process and dull the shine on some of them that have never been unwrapped or broken.

Any advice or helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

to CCF. Those weren't rolled by the mint, someone else did it. They may be uncirculated condition. Unless you know what errors and varieties to look for you are better off trying to sell them as is on ebay.

Well you didn't say where or how you got them , but they certainly didn't come from a bank that way . By looking at your photos it looks like they are all BU. First thing to do is carefully remove them from the tin foil and put them in plastic tubes , then you can decide what you want to do with them . Look for errors , or sell them on e-bay . You can also salt them away for the long run . Don't touch them with your hands as the oils from your fingers can leave finger prints on them .
BTW , To CCF .

Thank you guys! There was a mint bag as well. So I am assuming someone probably re-wrapped them to protect them. I was planning on using gloves if I opened them.

I will look for some plastic tubes for them to place them in once I go through them.

So you have any suggestions about pricing? Should I sell them all in one bulk or split them up?

I have no clue when it comes to coins, so I figured you guys would be the best place for me to ask.

Wow! This brings back memories.

My father had his store in the greater Philadelphia area in the 50s & 60s. He was a coin collector himself and would often get a $50 dollar bag of uncirculated cents from the bank for us to go through. They were loose and needed to be wrapped in 50 cent rolls for distribution to the registers. Some we wrapped in foil like yours and we put them in storage along with the bag. I don't remember why we used foil. Maybe the wisdom of the time was that the foil preserved coins better.

Your 1959's are the first year of the LMC. Perhaps someone was speculating on their value increasing.

And yeah, the bags are cool too.

I have to be around for a lot longer to sell on here. Plus I have to post a lot more.

I don't know if I'm going to sell them anyway. Was more just coming here to get some advice and information about what I may have found.

Sadly the local coin dealers in my area brushed me off when I called to inquire or see if I could be an appraisal. I assume due to COVID, they've likely had a rush on people trying to sell coins for cash and either don't have a need for them or won't be able to turn them for a profit easily right now. So I'll likely hold on to them for a while until I can have them properly appraised.

I need to spend time looking through more of the posts, but if someone could possibly direct me on which posts to view to discuss where to possibly get a good appraisal, I would appreciate that as well.

Go on e-bay and look up 1959-P&D bu rolls of Lincolns for average prices . I can tell you they are common and not worth too much , anywhere from $2.50 to $6.00 a roll in tubes .

but then again if you find any with Cuds, spike-heads or bie cents...ect, you could be looking at a few dollars per each cent...take your time read up on varieties and error, just keep them stored in a nice dry space...good luck

My guess is somebody picked out the best coins in that bag and wrapped them in foil. I would search those for the elusive MS-67 grade, in a PCGS slab it could be worth $400-500.

Since they are not mint wrapped coins, how can you be sure they are all from 1959 without going through them? Get a pair of gloves look through them so you know what you are dealing with. I hope you will find some nice surprises for your time. Have fun.
