While sorting some wheats I have owned for years under my desk lighted magnifier, something caught my eye when looking at this coin. There was loose crud around the date area which I gently brushed away. Using a more powerful glass, it appears to be an d over s mint mark. My question is what to do next. Who would be able to examine and determine if the coin is what it appears to be or something else. I have included the best (lousy) pictures I was capable of. On the subject of coin photography, can any one out there tell me the best settings for coins on a Nikon P530. Thanks for your help.

@fl, I agree with the frog that a better close-up of the mintmark would help us to see what you have. Below is the best that I can do with the current pics. I do note that varietyvista doesn't list an OMM for the 1931 cents:

Thank you Spence for the heads up regarding Variety Vista. I will be contacting Mr Miles tonight.

All of the 1931-D MM punches I've seen, especially in this position, have strong serifs, which appear here faintly. Guessing this may be the result of an abraded die.

Curious for sure.
