The reverse of this nickel appears to have an issue, strange roughness (sorry newbie, not sure the best way to explain) - I don't think it's PMD, but really not sure whats happening here. Thoughts?

Reverse die is in its late stage of life...notice the lack of steps

Not a plus for the coin. Damage, coin wear and alterations do not increase the value of the coin.
