Doubling on feathers = MD
Mint mark = circulation hit
Struck through = PMD

IMO

Other than that unfortunate gouge on the obv, it looks like a pretty nice specimen to me--pretty close to a complete horn.

Thanks spence and coinfrog. I like the toning on this one. Would this grade over 63 with the toning?

I'm no expert on grading, but here are my thoughts. First, the toning should have very little to do with the grade. Some folks might pay more for pleasing toning or less for unappealing toning, but it shouldn't be a factor in the numerical grade. Second, in order for a coin to be uncirculated (grades 60 and above), there can not be any circulation wear on the surfaces. Your coin definitely has some wear (such as on the horn) and therefore would grade lower than MS-63. I'll throw out XF-45 as an estimate, but hopefully others will provide more knowledgeable estimates of the grade.

Thanks just carl and spence. I wasn't sure if this was struck with worn dies or something because the rims look so good. I was thinking more au but its all scratched up on both sides. I got it because of the toning
