I sent this Morgan dollar to PCGS for grading. Although I haven"t gotten the coin back, I do have the PCGS cert. Please look at this Morgan and tell me what you think. *** Edited by Staff - Added image to post ***

Just does not have the "flash" or luster to be graded higher.
If I send it something like it I would end up getting back a coin graded AU58.

Based on those pics, an AU instead of MS could have easily been the result. They must have thought it was just a weak strike in the high points of Lady Liberty's hair and gave it an MS still.

The luster is there. It has a nice carousel on the obverse and reverse. I went to PCGS photograde online to look at their definition of an MS62 Morgan looks like and it looks nothing like this one.

It doesn't look MS to me, but I haven't examined a lot of Morgans.

"Buy the coin, not the holder."
I have seen this type of situation reported far too often.

That coin is AU58, be happy with the grade you got I think it's overgraded.

Agreed , coin is not even new . AU58 is about right . Looks washed out probably from too many dippy baths . These O mint usually come with a typical middling strike , but do have rich satiny creamy lustre .

well I do not see wear , I see a so so strike , luster is not good but some MS Morgans came that way so I can see it.

I'm in the AU-53 or -55 area.

They are probably pushing the new NFC, and over grading a few here and there, be happy your lucky.

Are you happy or disappointed with the results?
I'd call this one AU-58, just not seeing an uncirculated coin.

Don't take this wrong, but if you were expecting a lower grade, why send it in? Can't justify grading costs based on value, IMO. Just an observation.

First, PCGS TrueView photos generally (but not always) tend to make coins look a bit better than they look in real life. I don't know if that's marketing-driven or just a normal product of their lighting and equipment. The 1885-O is a common date all the way to MS-66, so PCGS handles a large number of the coins. There are lots of 63s and 64s out there for this date. Blast white and SPL examples are very common. Here, I don't see evidence of circulation, but I do see a weak strike, weaker luster than many 1885-O dollars, and a resulting likely eye appeal deduction from the technical grade. Just based on the photos, it looks it would net low-to-mid UNC (61-62-63). JMHO.
