I was wondering if anyone has seen a die break like this on an Indian. It would seem that with such a dramatic break more than one was minted. I would like to see if I could find more of this for comparison.

Where it looks like there is war paint under the eye. And under glass on that bump there are very fine lines running the same direction as the bump, from south west to north east. first one I have ever seen like that. so of course when I seen that at a local B&M I had to have it.

Hi and

I think this one is a lot more interesting than a die chip.
I suspect it's an errant mark left by a file to remove a die clash to the fields.
Something that clues me into this is the directional nature of the mark, and file marks have happened in this area before.
Checking further, this one is listed in Snow's attribution guide as Snow-4, a higher-interest variety!
Rick Snow describes it as "A very deep raised file mark under the eye diagonally from NE to SW."

KurtS,
Thank You for pointing that out. I'll check that out, I also wondered about that myself but was more drawn to the war paint.

It's Snow-4 without a doubt...it matches the photo in my book.
He also writes: "worth a significant premium: 2X-3X normal price".
