Anyone notice that there has been a ton of new members all of a sudden? I don't think I remember that ever happening before, but I could be wrong. I was wrong once, but then realized I was wrong John1

Yes John I've been wrong many times , then one day I met you on CCF and realized I was right all along . All kidding aside ;I agree there has been a lot of new members lately . I'm thinking it could be because there are still a lot of people not working because of Covid-19 and they want something to do instead of just loafing around .

I too suspect more people are spending time looking at coins and finding stuff they wonder about.

I decided to join in July after just lurking for 2+ years, because it was time, and I wanted to be able to ask questions I could not find the answers to with a straightforward search. I also wanted to improve my grading skills, and actually posting a guess/answer in a public forum forces me to look at the coin more carefully while applying the grading standards.

There has been much talk of coins lately, especially in the US where there is a "shortage of in circulation" Piques the public interest. We all know that some countries are ditching their lowest denomination coins, and digital transactions are growing exponentially.

I actually just rejoined. I forgot my username and password from before. Been away from collecting for awhile. Probably 3 years. Just now getting back into it.

Great! A constant flow of new members are essential for the health of any forum. Also the newer folks are a lot more enthusiastic then some of us that have been around for a long time and have seen and discussed everything before several times over. I know that I am running out of material to talk about relating to coins and have greatly slow down my acquisitions. Still love the hobby but not as gung ho as I one was.

I think a good number of "new members" are one-and-done members. John1

Quote: I think a good number of "new members" are one-and-done members I am a mod for a vehicle forum, and if I had the power, I would auto-close / auto-ban new accounts that didn't post within 2 weeks. Because of submarine spammers that log into the account months later, which bypasses a lot of spam detection rules ("Oh long term account, probably all good!")

As a new member, I can confirm it has to do with finding the hobby during COVID quarantine. It's a really nice mental distraction from all the mess in the world, and old coins kind of bring me back in history and out of the current age. Also started to get into precious metals toward the end of last year, good timing on my part apparently.
I've been stuck in my house now the past couple days due to wildfire smoke (I live near the fires in Oregon), so once again I'm kind of just focused on coins and browsing the forum gleaning knowledge.

Quote: I've been stuck in my house now the past couple days due to wildfire smoke (I live near the fires in Oregon @silverstash, we are just back from some travels to your beautiful state. Enjoyed passing through the desolate Malheur River region, then Crater Lake and Rogue River chasm. So sad to hear about the devastation Stay safe

Thanks tdziemia, it is a beautiful state. I've only lived here for about 3 years, spent most of my life in Colorado. I'm still exploring and seeing what the state has to offer. I have been to crater lake; beautiful location.
John1 - I'll have to see what's appropriate for a 50 post contest!
