I've been doing some research on the mintage of the colored 2 dollar coins that were issued to Woolies - this for some reason is not on the RAM 2 dollar mintage. (2016 Olympics, 2017 Possum Magic, 2018 Commonwealth Games)

https://www.ramint.gov.au/two-dollars

I understand that with the annual report published by the RAM, because of how the financial year is reported as last second half of the year and the first half of current year, mintage report only tells half the story.

That said, the report does seem to tell some interesting story. For instance in the 2017 - 2018 annual report, some earlier issues of the ANZAC dollar coins were struck. Perhaps for mintsets? Does this get tallied to the final mintage report? Also it happens with some foreign coins where coins with fixed year are struck.

Am I missing something...?

Hi gxseries, you'll find this information in the Appendices of the Annual Report for the relevant year(s). https://www.ramint.gov.au/annual-reports

For example, if you look in the Appendices of the 2015-2016 Annual Report it shows how many Olympic coloured coins were produced during that period on page 105. https://www.ramint.gov.au/sites/def...cPDF_web.pdf

This confused me also until squaremealroundplate recently explained how the RAM goes about reaching its final mintage number for each coin. Have a read here http://goccf.com/t/378775&whichpage=8 (scroll to bottom of page)

Thanks coaster. Turns out I wasn't looking hard enough. Found the Possum mintage as well - seems to be odd as all are 2 million except Hush sees her tail at only 800,000. Struggling to look for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games mintage figures - I'm sure they are hidden somewhere. I just find it strange that this is not included in the circulating figure mintage.

While I get why the mintage figures are split over two years, I cannot understand how older coins are still included in it. For instance in the picture shown, there are two gold coins (kangaroo and koala) struck with the year 2013 and 2014 which is not within the range of 2015 - 2016. How does this work?

Indeed.
(Sorry, couldn't resist).
But the RAM makes it very difficult to find total mintage numbers. It's almost detective work.

No, there is a correction on page 41 of the 2018-RAM report (page 24 on the PDF). ''Hush'' mintage is also 2 million.

Indeed, they are.
Figures can be found on page 41 of the 2018-RAM report (page 24 on the PDF). 2 million each.

Furthermore, the mintage for the 2017 $2 ''Lest We Forget'' was corrected.

The promotional ones aren't on the website because they were produced for Woolworths or whatever, not for the Australian government - while they are legal tender they were made on contract for an external company.

Coins with old dates can be produced in later years - I assume the mint doesn't want to waste perfectly good dies so they use them up. Not sure why it happens with non-circulating coins though - back-orders possibly?
