I've had some down time lately and I started checking out all my equiptment and although I love my microscope, I really dont like the lens I have. It is a 10x to 100x lens but I just cant seem to get good photos of things like repunched mint marks.
Im not too concerned about the mounting of the lens as I can always 3D print adapters as long as the lens is compatible with a 1/2.3 inch CMOS.
I would like to be able to get photos of things as small as mint marks, as clearly as possible. The microscope is more than capable of producing up to 2K quality, but the lens not so much.
Also, I was hoping someone may know of any programs that work with Mac OS that will let me use functions like exposure, contrast, brightness etc.
When hooked up to USB the microscope uses an Auto Exposure setting that cant be turned off with my current software, but if I hook up the microscope to an HDMI cable and a Monitor I can use the remote and shut off the Auto Exosure.
With the auto exposure off, it shows the real color of the coins I am looking at, but when the auto exposure is on it makes small copper cents look pink and nickels, dimes and quarters with a tint of blue.
Long story short, I'm hoping I can find a software compatible with mac that can let me remedy theses issues without the need of using the HDMI and Monitor. I know there is a lot for Windows, but I currently do not have the option to use a windows computer.

What is the optical magnification you are using to take pics of mintmarks? I suspect it's in the range of 2x-4x but these "marketing magnification" specs are always confusing. We need that info to figure out the right high quality replacement for your optics.
You can figure out the number by looking up the sensor specs for your camera, then taking a picture of a ruler or some object of known dimension. Then calculate the magnification by m = object size / sensor size.

Oops, my formula was wrong...m = sensor size / object size. Silly me...

Quote: john are you using a dinolite. what type of camera do you have. that has a 1/2.3 inch CMOS sensor chip. john is this the sensor of your dinolite. Rocky, it is an Industrial Microscope. I was going to purchase a dinolite but the price of this was just too good to pass up. This photo is with the 10x-100x lens from its minimum working distance hooked up via USB on my mac with auto exposure on since I cannot turn it off when hooked up through usb and this is also being taken through the plastic proof case the coin is in. This second photo is with the lens I just finished designing and printing at its minimum working distance hooked up via HDMI and a Monitor with the auto exposure turned off, this is also being taken through the plastic proof case the coin is in. In order to make this lens I actually took the old lens out of an old $20 ebay 10x-1000x USB microscope and 3D printed a lens body that would accept a 25mm C-Mount camera. As you can tell, there is a big color difference when hooked up via HDMI vs USB and I'm hoping I can find a program for mac that will allow me to get the same results. rmpsrpms, I will get you those measurements here shortly as well. I like the lens I made as it serves its purpose but I would like to be able to find one with a further working distance while still maintaining a closer magnification. If I can find a lens that works at a distance of 55mm while getting closer than the stock 10x-100x lens that would be great if possible.

JW007...that's a much different set of hardware than I expected.
Have you tried capturing an image in full resolution?
For white balance, it's hard to find a program that will control the camera and do "before the shot" white balance with these FHD cameras. What I have done in these cases was to shoot an image of a true grey reference at the same time as my other photos, then do white balance on the reference image "after the shot", then apply those settings to the rest of the images. This gives an accurate white balance/color for the processed shots.

I forgot to address the lens issue...it should be very easy to get a lens that works well with your system. Generally I'd think a 3x, 3.5x, or 4x microscope objective of good quality will do the trick. Once you confirm the magnification you're shooting for we can figure out what will work best.

Ray thank you. yes one thing here in Canada everything is hurry up and wait. but I know for sure I need this. I took out one of my wildcat rifles. it has a very unit scope on it. this scope the mount base is build solid on the scope. zero movement. when I looked through the scope. I see 2 crosshairs instead of one. I knew right then I had a problem. for those of you that dont know what a wildcat rifle is. well I won this rifle. became a Canadian moose calling champion. I went against 60 other callers. this rifle caliber is a 25.06 super fast. it shoots very flat. Ray I have found 3 coins with weld patches on the American Nickle. I have found a lot of these welds on the Canadians coins. the best yet the Canadians are even welding patches on there proof like sets coins. you all have a great one please all of you keep up the good work

rocky...that 25-06 is similar to a 6mm Creedmoor, which the US has now adopted for various small arms, but the 25-06 is superior. See here: https://ronspomeroutdoors.com/blog/...5-creedmoor/I'm a 308 guy myself, but more often I shoot 30-30. I love the old Model '94.

I am just waiting for one more little piece of glass. with that I should be able to get to where John is with his unit. but mine will be with the Sony A7R MII. here is the image
