1834-Gold-$-PCGS-VF30-CAC

Showed this coin to a friend after purchase. He noted a "problem" with this coin....can you see it? I didn't until it was pointed out to me. Your thoughts/comments are welcome. Do you think that it is "net" graded. How about the CAC approval. Sorry, this the best pic I have

Can you start by showing us larger images of both sides of this coin, please?

First,

You didn't put the denomination in the title, but it appears to be an 1834 plain 4 half eagle. For grading, we will need obverse and reverse pics. It would be helpful to have larger pics.

Thanks!

Yes, additional pics are needed. The obvious appear to be the cheek scratch and the rim hit at 10 o'clock.

Cheek scratch, rim ding, and there appears to be some thing going in the lip area. Need reverse to grade, and better photos would be useful.

These are the best pics I have, my concern was not what the grade was, as PCGS already graded it, but the rim nick, which I never noticed. Is it surprising that it straight graded with the rim nick, and that it won CAC approval?

I'm not surprised at a straight grade. It is a mid-grade classic gold coin. Gold is soft, and nicks, scratches, and dings happen. IMHO, most TPGs are a bit easier on classic gold than harder metal coins. Others may well see it differently. If you don't mind, I'll duck the CAC discussion, because I'm not particularly a fan of CAC.

Thanks again for sharing your coin with us!

Better pics are needed to say much but.......I'm not surprised PCGS graded it VF30 but am a bit surprised by the CAC approval. It likely was net graded 5 points down for the (minor) problems.

Rim nick or not. I'd take that coin in my gold collection

I think the coin is graded fairly.

Evidently so does PCGS and CAC!
