Hi Everyone. My wife inherited a small collection of mostly Canadian coins with some US and UK and a few assorted Australian ones. There are even some "tokens" from Klondike Days in Edmonton and Buffalo Days in Regina! In total only just over 100 coins. We live in the UK now and hope to dispose of these coins through ebay or something similar. I have tried my hand at amateur Numismatic grading but it is a minefield and I don't want to lead anyone on with false gradings etc. However, I don't want to be a complete idiot and give them away. I am hoping someone would guide me a bit with some advice. There are about 80 pennies starting in 1913 with sporadic years but from the forties on they are mostly complete decades up to the sixties. The nickels are from 1929-1965 again, sporadic years. There is also a Newfie 50 cent coin from 1919. With the research I have done, it doesn't seem that I have any of the really rare ones with dots, shoulder folds, large buttons etc. Most are kind of bog standard but I believe some are in very good condition. Are they really worth flogging off or should I try to get a job lot sale? Thanks in advance for any help.

The term 'bog-standard' is usually indicative of something that's not likely to attract a lot of attention. You could pick up a Charlton guide or look here [] for a rough assessment though, as you say, grade/eye appeal is key. I would rule out the rarities and, if there are none, focus on the high grade coins. You can look at the completed auctions on ebay or Heritage to see what going rates are like....

With the research you did you already know what you don't have, and the rest are likely common with very little value.

ebay will net you what they are truly worth.

I would suggest putting them away for another generation to enjoy some day.

Hi All, Thank you very much for the info. Much appreciated and kind of along the type of comments I expected. I might spend a bit more time on the grading bit and see. These coins have a bit more value over here in the UK if someone is interested due to savings on shipping etc. Thanks again for all the help.

Hello, Attached is a photo of a 1944 CDN Nickel. It seems to me that it is the least worn of my nickels. In your opinions, how should I describe it?

It looks cleaned, maybe EF (looking at hair), but I have a hard time grading nickles. You probably won't see much value in it, as the cleaning tends to kill most of the value in these coins.

Thanks again to everyone for their help. I have posted this 1944 nickel on the correct grading page as well and the consensus seems to be pretty even.
