Has anyone ever ran across a quarter that looks like this besides myself?

Looks like this quarter has a surface texture consistent with post-mint damage. Maybe it was buried for a while?

I'm not certain on the buried part because it was found in my pocket change but I did give it a clean with some regular hand soap and a tooth brush to see if it was rust are dirt but yet it stayed just like this when I dried it off. It has me puzzled. The weight is 5.5 grams so that's normal for sure.

Oooooo Never NEVER clean your coins. If you do, you can kiss any numismatic value goodbye. Just don't do it.

I understand no cleaning of the coins because it could interfere with the over all value but in my case I'm not lucky enough to come across any coins that has a high numismatic value so no worries. Now I do have a 1903 Indian head copper cent if you want me to post a picture of. Odds are that's not worth much either.
