I acquired this coin in a yard sale last year but,I don't know what to look at in order to tell if it's fake or not. I'm not a coin collector in any sense of the word. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

It's counterfeit. The number 5 on the reverse is wrong for that date. Is it magnetic?

Unfortunately, still a fake. Here's a comparison of the "50 C" on your coin with a genuine 1817 bust half on the bottom.

Thank you so much for all the help! @zuri. I definitely agree with you now that you pointed out the "5" and their massive differences. I wish we still had a coin shop in my town, could have been a quicker solution but, without one I'm glad I found the forum before I tried to sell it to someone just to be seen as a thief.
