You can read Breen's Large Cent book online for free through the PCGS Library:
https://www.PCGS.com/books/earlycents edited by my friend Mark Borckardt! Copies do pop up now and again, I paid $150.00 for mine of
Amazon five years ago or so. The best books on Large cents would be the Noyes books, available through Charles Davis:
https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/ch...Default.aspx though not a cheap set at $600.00 there is nothing better out there.
Other options are The Dan Holmes (Goldberg's)
https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/aucti...uctionId=443 and Walter Husak (Heritage)
https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/aucti...AuctionId=91 auction catalogs followed by the Robinson Brown (Superior)
https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/aucti...ionId=523113 and a few others.
I'd also be remiss to not suggest a visit to Al Boka's 1794 website:
http://www.1794largecents.com/1794/index.html and his great book (My review:
http://goccf.com/t/171054)
I think I have around 12-15 books on primarily just 1794 Large Cents in my library but only a single low grade 1794 cent in my whole collection. Sure wish I saved them when they were selling for $15-40 each for decent legible ones. Now it seems it takes a hundred dollar bill or more to get a Poor to Good example.

If I ever come into serious money that and some a particular colonials are on my list of must have coins on my bucket list. Jefferson head, Stared Reverse, apple cheek so many neat varieties in 1794.
Another friend Check Heck just did a neat talk on clash marks on 1794 Large Cents that was videoed and up now for viewing at NNP
https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/book/588139 and he is in many EAC videos under the David Lisot Media Library: This one as an example
https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/book/560143 but there are many, many EAC videos many featuring 1794 Cents.
Last but certainly not least is the huge archive of EAC Club news letters "Pennywise" 50 years of archived issues are free to read at NNP now:

That should keep you busy for awhile! Everything but the Noyes books and Boka's 1794 book I provided links that will allow you to read them for free online, thanks to PCGS and the Eric Newman Numismatic Portal (a site I seem to live at these days). It's the best research site around for US numismatic history right now (IMO).
