A chip, because it is part of the die that broke off, will be raised on the coin, as it is incuse on the die. A lamination would leave an incuse mark on the coin. Your affected areas are raised, so they are die chips.

A die is a negative of the coin. So the die had the highest points on the coin, as the deepest points on the coin. The outside of the die, is the fields.
