1973-D Lincoln Penny (Possible Doubled Die Obverse / DDO ?)

I think my eye has gotten a bit better, but as with anything, I'm going to defer to those with more experience in the field... So, what we have here is a 1973-D Lincoln Penny that doesn't really stand out all too much on the surface. It was only when I took a closer look with my loupe that I discovered that the date appears to have doubling of some kind. Could I also be a big pain and ask for a quick explanation of whatever your verdicts turn out to be? Doesn't have to be long, but, I'm eager to learn how and why you guys come to your conclusions. I greatly appreciate any feedback, advice, or suggestions. Report this Post to the Staff

The die itself is double and with this you see the shelf-like shadows and their not rounded edges on the numbers or letters ? I know it stinks, but keep trying. It's not doubling on the die, but is caused by the die shifting or bouncing after the strike cutting into the devices. ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? The reason is that it looks "shelf-like" and reduces the thickness of the letters. On this coin, circulation flattening has sorta cancelled that out, but you can see that the top of the number three is a bit thinner.
