What is up with this coin? it weighs 2.5g and is remarkably detailed.its not steal.. I tried a magnet..

Hmm never gave that a thought.. so a fire would melt the copper leaving behind the zinc and nickel?

The pic doesn't do it justice cause it is a really clean penny. There is no pitting or scaring except on the edge! I would think a chemical reaction that strips it of its copper would harm the zinc also. Lol I'm really just guessing..

Well the original copper plating has been stripped off at some point after it left the mint. I see evidence of blistering on the fields so the degradation process has already begun.

If you can, measure the diameter of the coin. If it's larger than 19.01 mm it could be a "Texas Cent." If it's the normal diameter, it's most likely environmental damage as noted above.
