I dont recall ever seeing a photo of a SBA dollar with strong roller marks still showing, so I thought id post this recent find here. Color could be from some environmental damage or just they way they are. Not too sure on that part. Weight comes in at 7.961 grams (NTEP cert. scale), so by all means "normal."

Interesting. Can you 'feel' any linear texture on the coin's surfaces?

Nope, smooth as can be. I'm sure the original pictures dont give credulity to that observation, because I agree it almost looks like scratches. I'll try to get some with less harsh lights.

Interesting, wouldn't roller lines only be on one side?

Single light source at k8/k9, 45 degrees off the surface of the coin, angled at roughly -15 degrees. Trying to get shadow + enough light to see what's going on. If any of the marks are incuse I cannot feel them.

They would be on both sides. How can you flatten the metal stock with out rolling with pressure from both sides? Looks like it was an outdoor find. Note on the tops of some of the devices, you can start to see the gray/gold color coming back to surface on the higher devices. If you carried this for a time in your pocket, you could see the color rub off in time and the fields will stay dark looking. Take images weekly to show how it progresses.

Thanks for the idea Coop. I am definitely going to do it now. Had great results on a buried Kennedy half, granted it did not start nearly as dark, but still a nice look.
