Found this in my penny roll search! It has some slight error at the base of Lincolns ear. it looks like a knot of some kind as well at the gouge by his forehead. The toning was worth mentioning as well. I have not cleaned this coin, it came out of the coin roll like this. I am not sure what the black spots are, maybe carbon spots? It was a pretty nice roll of 1955 P Lincoln cents, just like the 1955 S coin roll I haven't finished searching as of yet. Most of the coins I have submit come from coin rolls I purchased offline. I thought it was really nice coloring on it so I submitted it to the group. And to all of you that have voiced your opinion thus, far, I appreciate your feedback. However, seeing as how you dont know the person that is submitting the coin, dont make assumptions about them. If I submit a coin that I have personally cleaned, I will say, it has been cleaned. Enough said! As far as the pictures, I am working on putting the best pictures forward so they show the areas of concern. Edited by Lsea789 09/30/2020 11:13 am

I have a question and not incenuating in regards to your coin. I washed a dirty penny covered in dirt that I got out of the ditch with soap and warm water, it to had this color to it. So me being the girlie girl I went and got a few more and did the same amd they all had the sheen is it hand soap amd water that does this or just luck?

It is the soap and or water. Never clean coins period. Use 100% acetone if you just have to clean a coin, generally speaking. John1

to the CCF! What do you see on the coin that looks like an error? @Aliabeans Detergent can cause this kind of toning on a copper coin. It's really not a good idea to clean a coin if you are not an expert. Once the surface of a coin is changed there's no turning back. If the coin happened to be rare and needed to be graded, it would most likely get a details grade as Questionable Color or Altered Surfaces. A details grade on a coin can severely reduce the coin's value.

Nice toning. Closer in, in focus image of the ear area would help.

The dark areas on the obverse are called carbon spots. Imperfections in the in the base material. But a nice woody on the reverse side of the coin.

The lower part of the ear looks like it might have a die chip as well to me. Looks like its mounded up at that area.
