Picked up a roll of mostly higher grade pre-1941 coins and just pulled this out of it. Also an uncirculated 1936-S/S RPM-001 in there so it was worth the $14 I paid for lot. 1940 S Lincoln Wheat cent mint error - 129 degrees rotated dies

Nice, but it looks more like 128 degrees to me.

Thanks! I've gone through gobzooks of 1940-S coins and even though this is a year I always check both sides this is only the second one of these I've found. Seem like a rotated die is one of the more rare things out there for whatever reason.

Very nice! Rotated dies are more common on modern nickels, but wheat cents they are very rare.

I was going to say the same thing CH. Those are rare. I just saw a slabbed one that was off 20% or so. Nice coin Batts.

Nice wheat. Out of curiosity, how do you calculate the 129 degree rotation? That's very precise, did you break out a protractor?

Nothing so complicated as a protractor. I knew I found one of these a few years ago and that this die marriage is listed on rotated dies.com http://rotateddies.com/I trust they measured it more accurately than I could quickly, so went with their number.

Nice find. Even the 30/40 degree rotations aren't exactly common. I've only found one of those in the wheats.

Really nice find. Really great pictures. I just pulled a Memorial cent out of a role and it's rotated but not as much as your wheat. I like that mirror shot. I'm going to try that soon. Thanks for sharing

One more thing. When a side is rotated. Which die is rotated? Obverse or Reverse?
