I heard of the special mint sets controversy, specially more so OF 1964 p sms quarter, and the possibility of 1964 d sms quarter. One of the arguments for the non existent 1964 d sms is that if you were going to produce another sms from another mint was that it would make more sense to make IT SAN FRANCISCO rather than DENVER, that makes more sense. But I ran into this coin with frost on both sides and a DENVER mint mark BUT on CLOSER inspection the mint mark seems to be PUNCHED over an existing San FRANCISCO mark. At first I thought it may be just damage but I could see a round serif on bottom and a vertical serif right on top Like a REPUNCHED error. None of this makes sense to me because I'm no expert, the only think I could think of is that its experimental. What do you think?
Not a SMS as they were Philly coins (no mintmark) Not frosted as it is a normal business strike coin with a normal mintmark. Also not a type 'C'. The type 'C' have the strong tail feathers: The SMS had a different look to them.
