This coin was passed down to me from my grandparents. It is the better looking out of the Morgan and Peace dollars that I have. What do you think it would grade?

I can say with a high degree of confidence that it hasn't been cleaned in at least 40+ years. Just sitting in a bag in a lock box in grandmas basement. What gives the possible indication of a prior cleaning ? Is it the difference in color in front and behind the head versus above?

The darkness around the lettering and date, as well as the hairline scratches. Coming up on a milestone, contest time?

AU details.

MrBreeze looking closely at the fields of the coin and you will see quite a few hairline scratches on both sides of the coin particularly visible on the right side of the profile to the rim. the reverse is more noticeable to the right and left of the lower part of the wings. there are other scratches and markers such as the grime around the edges of the devices

I don't think it has been cleaned. If it was cleaned it will not prevent a straight grade. Still XF45 in these tired old eyes!

AU 50 details or XF45 if it doesn't get detailed, for lots of wear abrasions.
Seems to still have luster there, even with the abrasions. I don't think they will peg it as cleaned but hard to tell from these two pictures how the luster is exactly and if it's still reflecting light under the abrasions as it should.

really would be up to the graders to come to consensus which it is when grading it, easier to tell if seen in person, kind of hard from a picture.
