Hi guys,

I have this 1858 Canadian penny with several errors including 1 die crack on the Obverse of the coin located at the "C"of Victoria (seen 1st Obverse Photo), another die crack or chip at the "I" of Regina (photo 2) and 1 die crack on the Reverse (Leaf 8). The coin also has a medal alignment, broken vines at leaf 7 and 13, and a broken stem at leaf 13.

Does the "medal" alignment and the various errors and varieties add more to the value of the coin? I see a lot of sellers on ebay don't mention the various variety attributes in their listings.

Would this be a coin I should have graded? If so, what would you consider the grade of this coin?

I think your coin would grade AU+, the die cracks you mention are good if you are collecting for die pair identification.

Its a nice 1858 and very collectable look for one with no die cracks or missing/broken stems a little harder to find.

edit: it might be an obverse OA3, reverse RC26 described in Rob Turners book (1858 Cents of Canada Volume 11).
The Reverse is fairly common but the Obverse is seldom seen

agree that it looks like Obv OA3(a little less than 5% of the Obv dies used), but it looks like just into the AU grade. I think that EF45 is closer to what a TPG would call it. A little too much wear in the hair above the ear and the bun for AU.
