Hi all, I am not active in this area of CCF but am trying to help a guy having trouble on another website ID a coin he has. He says it came from an old Indian man a long time ago and it was pulled from the Ganges River in India. I cropped and straightened his poor photos and submitted them to another search site to no avail.

Don't often see a coin without a shield or portrait on one side. I think this could also be a fantasy piece or fake. But I have no experience once I am out of early US coinage. Thanks for any help you can give.

P.S. Photos are all I have and not mine, so I can only ask for other shots if needed, no guarantees on quality, I had to really work these to get them straight and color balanced from what I first received.

This is (or purports to be) a coin of the Kushan Empire in India. It's similar to the Kanishka I (128-150 CE) tetradrachm with a four-armed Oesho (Shiva?) shown about 60% of the way down on this page

I cannot comment on the authenticity. Posting a weight and diameter would help with all attributions.

I'm a bit skeptical - it looks like it might be extremely tooled from a genuine coin. I've seen fakes like this coming out of Pakistan and India in recent years.

Kanishka I/ 4-armed Siva (Oesho), apparently genuine but heavily tooled.

Thanks very much for all your help (CCF has great knowledgeable members)! I've sent of the info to the owner and will post back if he decides to get weights and measurements otherwise I think we gave enough of an answer for him to do some research on his own now.

Much appreciated.
