Here are three more... the French coin is from a past sale of mine... sold for a whopping $3.25 + shipping to some lucky collector. Date should be 1944, but there's no sign of the left portion of the 4, making it 1914.

The Italian coin is normally over-struck on a previous type, but usually does not show through this much. Also from a past auction.

The Norwegian coin is for a future auction, appears to be an unlisted over-date?

Thanks!

That Italian coin is very interesting! Did you approximate a value on that one? If that were a US coin from that period....
Judging by the date, I might have the same Norway 50 ore from 1948, but yours is in better shape, and the die appears less worn too.
Here's a detail of my coin, and some thoughts as to the cause..
Cool that I was just writing up something on the differences between repunched devices, overdates and doubled dies.

With the Italian coin, one sold for $6 and change, the other went for $28. ebay is funny like that =) I would estimate that out of 25 of these coins, you would find 2-3 with minor elements showing through, but maybe 1 in 40 will have dramatic elements on both sides (based on my own experience). Still, not as rare since this type is supposed to be over-struck from the get-go.
I'm very interested to see a second 50 ore with similar errors. I can't quite find any shifting in any of the other features, but your explanation makes more sense than an unlisted over-date which would be far more rare.
Still, I can't help but feel that the coin is worth more than the modest $12.50 that Krause pegs it at in BU condition.
And your coin is pretty high grade as well. The standards for Norwegian coins seem to be more liberal than many other nation's coins.

Hi, I posted your Norway 50 Ore to the gallery
Comparing in detail to my coin, I don't see the same doubling in "50 Ore" in yours.
So I'm guessing both our coins are different doubled dies, where yours just shows in the date.

Makes sense to me... we'll see what the bidders think once I auction it in a few weeks. I'll post the result.
Thanks.
