from personal experience, as well as coins I have seen posted here. it seems PCGS has tightened their grading over the past couple years. coins that have graded straight in the past or look borderline cleaned and have aged well are now coming back with details designations. grading seems to also have been tightened sometimes based on previous top-pop graders where PCGS seems to not assign a coin the proper grade based on that coin may exceed top-pop. I dont use these services to a degree where I can compare PCGS to say ANACS or NGC. maybe I'm seeing something that isn't there so has anyone seen this occurring in your recent experiences.

Grade-flation has been an acknowledged problem for quite a while.
The thinking is that NGC and PCGS have been trying to rein that in for several years now.
It takes more experienced people than I to make a judgement about both, grade-flation and readjustment.

And here I though ANACS was getting tougher on grading Morgans. Maybe they are all reining things in.

I noticed this also. When I submitted a few coins for grading to Anaxs, I dropped one as I was taking it out. I didn't see any marks but Anacs caught a tiny ding which I missed, and graded the coin at least 2 grades lower. Personally I'm happy as I wasn't agreeing with the overgraded coins I was seeing.
