Proof coins are not "polished" after they are minted. The dies as well as the planchets are polished. Minor MD? John1

The VDB is also showing Machine Doubling. Because these are incuse devices. You can often see these doubled: On TRUST on the obverse, there is flat field doubling on that area. The flat field happens when the first time the proof coins are struck with Machine Doubling, the second strike flattens this near the outside of the devices: It appears on your coin you can see Machine Doubling on both strikes. Note the classic doubling under the 'L' on Liberty. So to answer your question, no on the Doubled die or DDD. But Machine Doubling and flat field doubling.

That is the direction of the Machine Doubling. The VDB is incuse, when Machine Doubling happens on incuse devices on a coin (raised on the die) just like the ATB Quarters, the incuse devices get enlarged. The rules change on the raised and incuse devices. Raised Devices: Doubled dies show enlargement of the devices. Machine Doubling reduces the devices. Incuse Devices: Doubled dies show a reduction of the devices. Machine Doubling shows an enlargement.
