The reverse seems to be missing its copper plating. Is this just environmental damage?

You provided two photos of the reverse, they were different in their lighting? The second photo appears to be fairly normal looking. If indeed there is a large difference in colour, perhaps it is a case of environmental toning/staining. But your two obverse photos appear to be very different from each other as well.

Yes merclover, slightly different lighting on the different photos. The 3rd & 4th photos have the better color representation. Same coin throughout.

I noticed your background colour, the purple/blue is a different shade in every photo. That might be a good guide for you to try to match up, especially when you wish to show us a difference in your coins. It's not too difficult to adjust your photos to make them match.

Not necessarily damage from the environment as it could be exposure to chemicals. You are right though that it is damage.
