Does the author's son still need copies of the book, or did he already get them?

Unfortunately I missed out on the copy I was pursuing. I needed some information from another person and by the time I got the info I needed & passed it on to someone who could actually go to where the book was, it had been sold.

I was hoping it might have been bought by a member of either this forum or the Aussie one, but no-one has come forward to say they've got it.

John (the son of the Author) and another forum member are looking at the feasibility of doing a 2nd edition, but at this time, no further details are known.

The search continues.........

Me too!!

Where/who did it come from? Might it be the one I missed out on? Morisset area? AU$180?

I must have missed seeing gxseries reply, as I would have jumped at that one back then.

The book does look like it's scarce and from the sources that I'm looking at in google, prices are pretty outrageous.

You know what Nancy.. now I'm looking at the little ad they sent with the book and it IS from the Morisset area. I didn't actually purchase it from this place, though, it was a different one. I think it was $140 US. I guess they listed it with another bookseller and then the original place shipped it? That would explain why my order is still listed as pending.. and why nobody would answer my emails asking about mailing status.

I didn't want it getting away, so I grabbed it when I saw it... but didn't want to get anyone's hopes up until I actually received it and verified it was the right one. Took forever to get here, too.

I'm going to have to play with the scanner settings to get the most out of the black and white photos. I'll try to get started tonight

Thanks guys.. in appreciation, here's a teaser. It's the first part before it gets into details of all the coins. Pages 4, 6 and 16 are blank, I did not add blank pages for them, to conserve space

It's a PDF File (5MB) - if we need it in another format, let me know. The black and white pictures are very grainy so when I get to the next part where the pics and drawings start, I'll try to get some higher resolution scans. These are all at 600 dpi.

I also forgot to scan in A4, so the footer "COSMOS Collectables" and the page numbers at the bottom all got chopped off. That's probably not a bad thing.

I'll keep the larger TIF files as I go, and when I'm done I can burn them to a CD and send it to Mr. Byrnes and whoever else would like one. I can also print and mail if you'd like a hard copy (and if we're allowed). Nancy, would that be ok with him?

Since I don't have permission, I will take the PDF's down once you guys download them, then you can then put on your sites.

By the way, these are doing well with text recognition and being exported to Word. Of course the formatting gets messed up, but that can be re-done.. it would be good to proof-read since the conversion isn't perfect. That's why it's probably not a bad thing that the footer isn't on the pages, that way a page-by-page delete for the next version wouldn't be needed. However, if he wants them at A4 size for completeness, that's fine, too.

When I get done I'll probably have 6-10 PDF files and an html page with the exported text.

There is ONE page, front and back, of full color (besides the covers). It outlines his variety discoveries - including the 1962 double-nose penny!

Once again, I agree with Richard.

xshift, you are an absolute gem! There aren't enough adjectives to describe you.

I await the balance of your labors eagerly.

I'm not fussy what type of copy I get, PDF. TIF, scan, CD. Whichever is easiest for you.

I'm so pleased!!

Well, this isn't the balance, but it gets us done with the first half

Half pennies:
14 MB, part 1: http://www.dragonshadows.com/au-var...es-part1.pdf
11 MB, part 2: http://www.dragonshadows.com/au-var...es-part2.pdf
7 MB, part 3: http://www.dragonshadows.com/au-var...es-part3.pdf

I didn't see any improvement in the coin images even at 2400 dpi.. but the drawings benefited from slight sharpening.
