I need help identifing this 1954 penny. It looks like there's half of the D mint mark next to the S. Has anyone ever found something like this before? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated (:

I think what you are seeing is a gouge because there is a "cut" with raised areas on both sides.

Die crack. There is another example on another year that looks a bit like that. But the crack it south of this one.

In lieu of better photos, I'm seeing a die issue (crack or gouge), not a stray D mint mark. On another note, the coin appears to have been roughly cleaned a while back to better expose the date.

That one looks like a older die state of the first coin where the chip is still chipping along.
