Hi

I found this today in the bottom of a box of coins
i had purchased from an estate. Had seen some clipped
coins before and it reminded me of them.
The wear seems normal in and all around the area as far
as the rest of the coin goes. All pretty even etc.
Looked for signs of post mint mucking around with, but
it looks like it has been like this since day one.
No way to tell for sure but maybe someone can see something.

Thank's

It's a clipped planchet with a lot of excess wear because of it's age.

looks good, but strange that there is almost no Blakesley effect.

The Blakesley effect doesn't always show on genuine clips.

This one is genuine, no doubt. I find one in just about every 5000 count bag I go through.

Thank's all for the input. First one I ever found.
Saw that Blakesley effect term and checked on it.
Then I can see slight flatness on both sides of the coin
directly opposite the clip. Very slight but there. As well
as how the metal flowed outwards toward the rim. See, you do learn
something new every day !

For a coin struck on an incomplete planchet, with only this much missing, The Blakesley effect is actually pretty good. The E P area of E PLURIBUS UNUM is fairly distinguishable.

As stated earlier, it's a keeper:-)

Have Fun,
Bill
