Just snagged this as an example for my type set. I personally am a diehard mint set toning lover. The originality and depth of the colors that you can find are unrivaled IMO. That aside, what do you think PCGS gave it?

Pretty special. Maybe MS-67?

MS66+ through a 67 or even 68 grade really isn't out of the question either, it's hard to tell on these heavy toned coins from a single photo, as little scuffs or ticks could be hidden so easily under all that nice color. It's a really nice looking coin and knowing Grape Collects quality eye I think I maybe am a little low on my estimate.

Well check that - I had a quick look at the pop report at PCGS, there are no 1958 in MS68, imagine that, I was shocked. So following a good story I checked out their price guide, wow silver Washington MS68 quarters are rarer than I ever imagined. No offense but I don't think many people here (Grape I'm looking at you) are buying MS68 silver Washington quarters for that kind of cash. Holy Cow! $8K to $9K is cheap for them. and many dates are five figures, I had no idea. WOW. I'll stick with MS66+ then.

See what happens when you focus too narrowly on only early US coinage.

Impossible to judge the fields with that crazy toning! Great looking coin. I see a couple small tic marks on the obverse, one on the reverse. Technical MS-66, probably got MS66+ bump for the toning.

I can't comment as to the grade (yet) but I appreciate it. Careful selection is very important. Except for a few coins out there most coins that us non-millionaires tend to go after are in either abundance or good supply. It took a year to find a Peace dollar for my set that I wanted, and 2 years for the 2 cent. The Washington quarter was pretty easy, I pretty much knew what I wanted, what I was looking for and then it was a matter of finding one priced well.

If I had 9k to drop on a type coin I can tell you 100% what it'd be. A choice AU-58 Draped Bust Half. I can think of no coin I'd rather have. Draped bust coins are my favorite design and I like halves due to their size and affordability.

the toning is sick on this one. I cant see this coin at MS65. so that pretty much leaves 66 and 67 as possible grades. as westcoin stated with this much toning its pretty much impossible to assess the surfaces without a blowup or in hand. I can see it at 67. I'm hoping it came back at 68 so we can send accolades.

panzaldi - if it come back at MS68 Grape can send each of us in this thread a really nice bottle of wine or whiskey to celebrate and he will still have enough left over to get his draped bust half. Or more probably just forget that and get himself a nice MS63 draped bust half instead.

1958 Washington quarter in PCGS MS68 maybe worth? $17,000 - $22,000 probably. That's doubling the last price at MS67+ and figuring it's only one out all of them so a push from the Registry Set collectors as well. Outrageous and crazy high priced IMO, but still a very reachable price I think if one turns up.

Grape I don't think I've had more than 2 Guinness pints in the past two years, but now if it's root beer or espresso then hold on!

Looking forward to seeing the grade on this coin.

I'll say MS 66+, but honestly it could be MS67.

Beautiful!
