First of all, to the forum, where you will find a tremendous amount of knowledge and help on your coins.

Your 77 is the correct weight, or at least within specs from the mint.

Sorry, it's not rare at all, and what many on this forum would call a "spender". There were more than 468 million of this year and mint. Don't get discouraged and keep hunting.

Ive read that the 1977 quarter is supposed to weigh 5.67 grams however when struck with silver clad they weigh exactly 5.7 grams.
Also silver oxidizes black. A silver clad D quarter sold at auction for $4000.00. I have no clue if that is what you have, I'm in no way a proffesional but this is the info ive found researching a similar quarter I found.

Actually a Silver Clad quarter weighs 5.75g
As the OP's scale only goes to 1 decimal point, it could easily be 5.67

5.7 gr. it is in the parameters. The 1977 was just clad Ni-Cu clad over the Cu core. The color is correct for an clad coin which has interaction with Na or S.

The black tarnish of the silver is not oxide. Can you put here the Link of that auction for an Silver clad quarter of 1977? I think you confound with the 1965 series.
