Hi all,

Looking for input from some of the folks on this forum that are knowledgeable on varieties. Would you consider this a "small circle within 0" variety? I have the chance to pick this up for about $120. Thanks for your help!

Note - these are the only photos available. Sorry for the blur on the date close-up.

Your Half Cent has obverse 3 / reverse C as catalogued
in the reference book "American Half Cents, the Little Half Sisters" by Roger Cohen.
That die pairing is quite scarce in AU and above but very common in lower grades. Have not collected Half Cents for a long time, the reference book came out around 1982. Not sure what has been released since then. I had never heard of it being called small circle within the 0 but terms may have changed over the last 38 years.
All Half Cents are great coins, yours is beautiful.

Yes it is th C-4 variety 0/0. VERY easy to recognize with the leaf under S2 almost reaching the O in OF. Only variety with that reverse.

Yep, well known die variety.
It's one of six die varieties for 1809 Half Cents.
Rarity 3.
$120 is no bargain considering its condition; big hit on the "R" in LIBERTY.
But probably a reasonable retail price.

Do you have any idea what the true color is on this coin? These pics suggest at least the possibility that it's been cleaned.

Thanks for all the info. I ended up getting it for $110 with an AG 1804 half-cent thrown in. Not the deal of the century, but I'm happy to fill a couple of long empty type set holes.

The 04 is a C-13.
