Has anyone else noticed the strong trend up in low grade ICCS certified 50 Cent pieces lately? I know 50 cent pieces have always been difficult to find in higher grades, but I'm referring to low grade G6's and G10's etc....

some recent TCNC audtion results:
1901 ICCS G6 $98 (all in)
1894 ICCS G6 $529 (before taxes and ship)
1932 ICCGS VG 10 $273 (before T & S)
1900 ICCS V6 $77+ (before t & S from May)
1906 ICCS VF20 $95 (before T&S)
1912 ICCS F15 $83 (before T&S)

We are able to sell any that we get at close to trends .
I guess lots of people sitting at home are waxing nostalgic
and filling in the holes in their old Whitman or Coins of Canada
Albums .
Contrary to " the sky is falling " sceptics the coin Market is
rather strong these days . There are many out there with
too much money and nothing to spend it on . IMO

Agreed, it has been hard to find some of those at prices I want to pay.

There were a few head scratchers in the 4th session

1944 1 cent PCGS MS64 red - $85
1946 1 cent PCGS MS65 red - $327
1947 1 cent PCGS MS64 red - $85
1947 1 cent ML PCGS MS 65 red - $110
1953 1 cent SF PCGS MS 64 red - $285

I am guessing someone was working towards a registry set?

I was happy to finally get a 1930 1 cent MS63RB for $190, It has been on my upgrade list for a long time.

Thank you for the info tripoli, I didn't realize that these 50 cent coins were realizing those kinds of prices. What about King George V and VI 50 cent pieces. Has there been any upwards trend on these years in lower grades?

The George V small cents in the TCNC auction did very well across the board. The higher priced items all sold well. Purely Wasted, I agree that 1946 in particular was a head scratcher. That being said, the PCGS 1946 population in 65 Red is only 4 and getting a coin into such a holder is not easy. I have submitted two that failed.

I agree the 1946 PCGS 65 RD cent was a head scratcher. It certainly sold at a very reasonable price. Someone made an exceptional purchase.

Just to answer Canada67, I think the upsurge in bullion is moving up values of common date/grade halves. With 0.3 ox of silver equivalent, the bullion value is almost C$10. No doubt lots of low grade coins will get melted or bought by bullion hoarders. Numismatic value will not matter for a George VI or Elizabeth half other than key date/varieties or high MS coins. I recently sold over 100 silver dollars to a bullion hoarder......coins I had accumulated from collector bulk buys. I suspect they will never return to the numismatic market.

If your PCGS MS 63RB 1930 One Cent is in an older PCGS green rattler holder it was one of the 25 coins I had in the auction. I believe it a contender for an upgrade.

Thanks for putting it in the auction colonialtokens, it found a happy home. I have found it to be a tough to track down without going into the $400+ price point. Just a few more cents to go to complete an MS penny collection.
